Our life is full of decisions. There are lots of small decisions we have to make on a daily basis such as what to eat for our dinner. There are also the less frequent big decisions covering something like a relationship or career move. Do you have a particular strategy that you apply to making decisions? I spent this weekend in Derbyshire with some of my closest friends. I was shocked at the amount of snow my daughter and I experienced there. We enjoyed getting out in it and we even built a snowman! My friend said it looked like an owl- what do you think? I don’t usually attach pictures of myself and the stuff I do in these newsletters (other than the cheesy head shot), but I couldn’t resist this time J

I attended a training course at the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development in London recently. The trainer of the course (Dr Paul Brewerton from Blue Edge Consulting – who was brilliant by the way) repeatedly banged on about “self-directed neuroplasticity”.  He provided a little background on the course that made me curious to learn more. Anyway, since then I have done some reading on the subject and to help my learning and provide you with something of use and interest I wanted to share my take on it with you. I’ve experienced some technical problems at home recently, which meant that I didn’t have Internet access via my laptop. At first, I must admit that I was getting frustrated as I am used to being continuously online. These technical problems forced me down a route where I had to work offline most of the time and then go online occasionally to synchronize my email and do other tasks such as update my web site, blog and visit other web sites etc.

I started doing karate a few years ago. My aim was to get to black belt within three years. I did that and I recently made a decision to stop it and spend more time on my business and family. Most people who are effective at a particular sport will recognise the linkages to other areas of their life. On the face of it you wouldn’t think that there are similarities between two quite different activities such as karate and running a business, but there are quite a few e.g. concentration, focus, stamina etc.
