Work Life Balance

Achieving work-life balance is becoming harder and harder given the expectations of today’s organisations. This is a popular area for people to work on and I find that a multitude of factors feed into their challenges including:
- Unreasonable demands from boss/employer
- People are having to work additional hours to make up for their own performance issues
- An inability to switch off i.e. the mind is constantly thinking about what has happened at work and what is coming
- Poor time management
- Taking on too much
- Lack of substance in other areas of life, which leads to being “work centred”
- Inability to manage the stress created through work
Often there will be a number of forces at play. I work with my clients to breakdown the problem into its constituent parts and then create a plan for tackling each challenge. The end result is that the client feels in control of how much time and energy is being spent on work compared to other areas of their life.
This is an ongoing challenge for most people. The techniques that are used within the coaching programme are generic and can be applied at any time. Therefore, the programme is not just about solving the current work-life balance challenge, but also about providing you with a set of tools you can use to help you going forward.
You will notice from the list above that achieving work-life balance is not just about the hours you are working, but also about the way that you think. It is about being in control of what you are thinking about and when you are thinking about it. Some of my clients work reasonable hours, but cannot stop thinking about work when they leave! I am a qualified NLP Practitioner and can use NLP techniques to sort this our simply and effectively.
