Qualified Life Coach
There are no hard and fast rules when selecting a Life Coach. There are thousands of “qualified” Life Coaches within the UK and they all operate differently. I respect other coaches and appreciate that all coaches have their own unique style.
Coaching experience and a successful track record are the most important factors to consider when selecting a Life Coach. It is worth asking coaches to share their successes with you and to ask whether they are prepared to provide references so that you can follow up on their performance claims.
A qualified Life Coach may list a range of courses they have attended or accreditations they have. There is no single Life Coaching professional standards body and the coaching industry is not regulated. There are a number of short certificate and diploma courses that anybody can attend to become a “Qualified Life Coach”. There are some great courses out there (e.g. Coaching Academy & Noble Manhattan Coaching), but many of them are fairly basic and lack substance. Be mindful of this if you are looking to place your trust in Life Coaching qualifications. In the words of Harvey MacKay “Beware the naked man who offers you his shirt”.
Pricing is also a key factor. If you feel that a price you are offered is too high or low you can ask the coach to justify why. A low hourly rate may be due to a lack of experience or confidence. As a rough guide, costs for Life Coaching range from £45 - £300 per hour and the average cost is around £75 per hour.
My prices are available on request. Pricing for Life Coaching is consistent i.e. everybody gets charged the same price regardless of how they receive the coaching or the area that they are working on. Prices are reviewed during the first week of every month and adjusted based on demand. However, when you sign up to coaching with me the price I give you holds good for twelve months. I also provide flexible payment options.
Insist on a telephone or a face-to-face discussion before investing in Life Coaching sessions. Rapport is extremely important within the coaching relationship. It helps to find somebody that you feel comfortable working with, which is why I offer new customers a free session. The coach must be able to understand you before he or she can support you effectively. Above all, trust your instincts.
